Episode III

Revenge of the Kenmore

The dryer is shot! This being the second time in 5

months that the Nix dryer has ceased to work, the

Nix's are furious. Never again will they purchase a

used dryer from an appliance repair shop. The first

lasted just over a week before the drum started

rubbing against the outside of the machine, making

a terrible, loud racket. They returned it to the

store and had it replaced with a better model, and

now, 4 months later, there is an issue with the

electronics. We join our heroes as they begin their

search for another (this time a new) dryer.

We begin our Wednesday morning by getting up early and eating breakfast (I ran to Krispy Kreme to get donuts while Tracie stayed home and made coffee...her first time making it at home and it was pretty good, she's a natural, I guess I'll keep her.). After showers and repeated trips outside to take Beamer out, we are ready and raring to go at 9:40am and I have my negotiating shoes on! Ok, so they're just my old blue nike tennis shoes, but that's besides the point.

9:45 am: We pull into the Home Depot parking lot. Not expecting to find much at Home Depot, but it's the closest appliance store to our apartment. Once we find the appliance section (It's not clearly marked), we were very disappointed at their selection of 6 dryers. No exaggeration, only 6, maybe 7, dryers. 2 are really cheap and the rest are those really fancy dryers with the glass doors that cost way too much. We look around for a bit and never once see an employee to answer any questions we might have about delivery and haul away and such, so we decide to leave.

9:55 am: Pull into the Sears parking lot. We have to sit there for a few minutes because the store doesn't open until 10. We finally go inside and within 2 minutes of looking at dryers, we have an associate come to check on us. We end up finding a dryer that is essentially the newest model of the one we currently own and it is within our price range...but delivery and haul away is an extra $80. Yuck! So we politely thank her for her help and let her know we are going to check a few other places and that we may be back.

Now we have one more place to go, Lowe's. Now if you haven't heard, I'm not too fond of Lowe's primary spokesperson, Jimmie Johnson. Never been a fan of him, or their secondary spokesperson, that cheater Chad Knaus. In all of my experience at that store, however, I have had absolutely incredible customer service. So we walk back to the appliance department (Very clearly marked from the store entrance) and they have a HUGE selection of washers and dryers. Right off the bat we find the exact same dryer that we were looking at at Sears and also right off the bat we have an associate asking to help us. Turns out, the dryer is $5 cheaper at Lowe's and they deliver and haul away for FREE!!!! Needless to say, we took complete advantage of this and the dryer is scheduled to be delivered later on today.

So Home Depot can complain all they want about Lowe's winning 5 straight Sprint Cup championships, but that is the least of their worries. And I have quickly discovered that Lowe's is the Chick-Fil-A of the Home Improvement Warehouse industry.
