2013 Nascar Preview and Bold Predictions

So I was right on 52% of my predictions last year. I'll take it. That's more right than wrong. The 2013 season is almost upon us and I couldn't be more excited. Spent a lot of time this weekend watching the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and now I'm ready to see some drafting! New look to the cars this year. They look pretty snazzy, particularly those Chevys. We got new faces in new places. The end of the top 35 rule. The return of testing. And even a budding romance! (More to come on that). Well, let's get to the good part, shall we?

Jamie McMurray- I'd imagine he's on a pretty short leash after single handedly ruining Chip Ganassi's 02 car in the Rolex 24. Lucky for him the other car one the damn thing. Jamie will not win, nor do I think he'll be back in this car next year (the team may cease to exist). 21-25 in points.

Brad K- Brad's going to get off to a slow start this year. Call it a Championship Hangover. But about midway through the year things will start clicking and he'll start rattling off wins and will solidly make the chase.

Kasey Kahne- Had a nice run to finish off the year last year. Have a feeling it's going to be a rough time this year though. No wins, misses chase. 13th in points.

Marcos Ambrose- He'll definitely win a road course race. And like I said last year, if he can win both road course races, he may just sneak into the chase. 16-20 in points.

Danica- The Rookie of the Year contest just got a little more spice. As we found out earlier this week. Danica is now dating fellow rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Danica will be a non factor this year. Doubt she'll even get a top 10 finish. 26-30 in points

Denny Hamlin- He's going to win a lot of races, but be terribly inconsistent, causing him to rely on a wildcard to make chase.

Tony Stewart- Tony is going to get on a roll fast and win a lot of races early. Makes Chase and will be point leader going into Chicago (Chase opener)

Clint Bowyer- Clint is going to struggle to replicate last year's success. He will win a race and make the Chase.

Greg Biffle- The Biff takes over the #1 spot at Roush. He will have a solid year, win a couple races, and easily make the Chase.

Ricky Stenhouse- He's a runaway for Rookie of the Year....don't know how that will effect his love life though. Time to get bold. Ricky will win a race AND get the last wildcard to make the Chase.

Kyle Busch- Poor little Kyle. With Kenseth coming over, he gets booted down to the #3 spot at Gibbs. He'll find victory lane once, but will lose out to Stenhouse on the final Chase spot. 14th or 15th in points.

Matt Kenseth- RESURGENCE! Kenseth is going to start winning fast at Gibbs, maybe even win the 500 for a third time. He will be the points leader for the majority of the year and win the regular season in points.

Trevor Bayne- He'll be solid in the few races that he runs, but get ready for him to come to Cup full time in 2014.

Joey Logano- Hoping he does well this year with Penske, but I think it's going to take him a year to get his bearings. Won't win. 16-20 in points.

Jeff Gordon- Going to be a big year for Jeff, possibly his last really good year. He'll win multiple races and make the Chase.

Paul Menard- More of the same from Menard. Occasional top 10's. No wins. 16-20 in points.

Kevin Harvick- Harv will be saying farewell to Childress leaving the door open for Austin Dillon to take over in 2014. It'll be a good season for Happy. Multiple wins. Makes Chase.

Jeff Burton- Burton is about done, but this isn't called BOLD predictions for nothing. Burton WILL win a race this year. One of the superspeedway races he'll slip into the front and pull off a miracle win, then he'll probably be replaced by Kurt Busch next season. 16-20 in points.

David Ragan- ..........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

David Gilliland- .........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ryan Newman- Newman might be another target for a Childress car in 2014. Could be a straight swap for Harvick. No wins for Newman this year. 16-20 in points.

Juan Montoya- JPM is off to a great start this year after winning the Rolex 24. Look for that to spill over into the Cup series. Montoya might even finish in the top 10....in a race or two. Might be another Childress prospect if Ganassi closes his cup shop. No wins. 21-25 in points.

Aric Almirola- Winner, winner. Chicken dinner! Almirola will bring the 43 car back to victory lane this year, most likely in a fuel mileage race. Too bad he'll be outside the top 20. 21-25 in points.

Jimmie Johnson- Johnson will win more races than anyone this year and easily make the Chase. Will it be number 6?

Mark Martin- Probably be his last year in the 55. Going to have some solid runs. Come close to winning, and I would love to see him win, but I don't think he will win.....

Brian Vickers- .......on the other hand, will sneak away with a win and take over the 55 car full time in 2014.

Martin Truex- The wait is over. Truex will win not once, BUT TWICE this year. Solidly makes the Chase.

Kurt Busch- Think he might be able to win at Sonoma, but nowhere else. He says he'd be content to stay in the 78 in 2014, but I think he'll be a prime candidate for Childress. 21-25 in points.

David Reutimann- He's back full time!

Dale Jr.- Some guy on USA Today predicted Jr. to win it all! He's BOLD. Well you know what? I'm BOLD TOO! But not that bold. No doubt Jr. makes the Chase, but I'm not sure if he'll find victory lane this year.

speaking of not finding victory lane....

Carl Edwards- The slump will continue for cousin Carl. No wins, misses Chase. 14-15 in points.

Now, your final standings:

12. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. -141. The pressures of the Chase will get to young Ricky, but just being there will be a huge shot in the arm for 2014.

11. Tony Stewart -78. Tony will have issues in the final 10 and be out of the running early.

10. Martin Truex Jr. -73. Although he'll win and return to the Chase, he won't be a factor.

9. Denny Hamlin -65. Remember those consistency issues I told you about?

8. Dale Earnhardt Jr. -61. Just lacking that extra mmmph that he needs.

7. Greg Biffle -56. Early struggles will be tough to overcome.

6. Jeff Gordon -51. Don't think he has anymore championships left in him.

5. Kevin Harvick -44. Nice send off to RCR and great bragging rights against new boss.

4. Clint Bowyer -43. He's getting close.

3. Matt Kenseth -39. Rough start to the Chase keeps him away from 2nd title.

2. Jimmie Johnson -29. Will be point leader with 2 races left and be right there going into Homestead. But for the 3rd straight year, Homestead will get the best of him, killing his championship hopes.

1. Brad Keselowski. Jimmie will give him one hell of a time, but the Brad era has now begun.

Well, there ya go! 90% will probably be half wrong, but half of that is what makes this 90% fun! Happy Racin' Y'all!
